About Laura Solis
Laura Guadalupe Solis Rodriguez, born in 1993 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, is an accomplished Mexican Filmmaker. In 2017, she earned her degree in Marketing and Communications from Tec de Monterrey. Building on her academic foundation and with the support of the Darmasiswa Scholarship, she furthered her expertise by obtaining a diploma in Art, Culture, and Folklore from UNIKA Soegijapranata University in Semarang, Indonesia, in 2018.
Throughout her career, Laura has demonstrated her versatile skills, having served as a photographer for the Deshpande Foundation in Hubli, India, in 2018, and for the Department of Archeology at the University of Calgary, Canada, in 2015.
As a director, Laura has showcased her talent through a series of impactful short films. Notably, "Ini Bukan Handuk!" ("It's not a towel!" 2018) marks her fifth directorial endeavor, produced and filmed in Indonesia. In her native Mexico, she directed four short films: "Colores" (SLP, 2014), "Solo Ella" (SLP, 2015), "Flores Blancas" (SLP, 2016), and "Fresas con Crema" (Leon, 2016).
Laura's contributions extend beyond directing, as she has also played key roles as a cinematographer and photography assistant in various productions, including the Franco/Mexican film "Pinches Actors" (Freaking actors, 2014).
Her commitment to community service is evident through her volunteer work with VIVE MEXICO association in Camerata Nuova, Italy, in 2011. Laura's dedication to her craft has earned her prestigious scholarships, including the Mitacs Globalink scholarship from the Government of Canada in 2015 and the Darmasiswa scholarship from the Indonesian Ministry of Education in 2017.
The success of "Ini Bukan Handuk!" led to Laura receiving the Fundación BBVA Bancomer Creative Potential Scholarship in 2018, enabling her to pursue a diploma at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Television de San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba in 2019.
Her sixth project as director, the short film "MAKU" (2019), was crafted in Bogotá, Colombia, thanks to her participation in the government program Alianza Pacífico.
Recognizing her artistic prowess, Laura was selected for the "Resilencias", an artistic program in 2020, supported by the municipal government of San Luis Potosí. Her engagement included the creation of educational videos about cinema for children.
Currently residing in the city of Bonn, Germany, Laura continues to make impactful contributions to her field. Her notable collaborations include working with brands such as DHL, showcasing her ability to blend creativity with corporate partnerships.
